Tuyen Quang has a population of 727,751 persons (as of 2005) from 22 different ethnic groups, of which 387,992 persons or 53.9% are in labour age with 4.2% working in industrial sector, 2.6% in forestry and aquaculture sectors, 1% in service sector, and the left (above 80%) working in agriculture sector.
Young age is one of the strong points of labourers in the province. Of which, 51.8% have finished secondary and high-school education levels, and total of 10,096 persons owning university degrees, 80 persons having master degrees and 4 persons possessing doctor degrees. In Education and Training field only, there are 6,188; 60; and 4 teachers possessing university and college; master; and doctor degrees respectively; In the Medical field: there are 249 doctors and pharmacists owning university degrees, 120 persons obtaining level I and II specialization degrees, and 5 persons possessing master degree; In the Culture, Information, Gymnastics, Sport fields, there are 161 persons having university and college degrees, 3 persons owning master degrees. In Economic field, there are 1,130 people having university degrees and 2 persons possessing master degrees.
The province was certified for achievement of universal secondary education at national level in 2001. By 2003, 100% of the villages in the province have had access to pre-school education and achieved universal primary education in the correctly defined age group. In 2004, Tuyen Quang town achieved universal upper-secondary education. Great efforts are also put in training and refresh training for labourers, classification of pupils finishing upper-secondary schools for training. The provincial training centres conduct demand-driven trainings to ensure provision of sufficient knowledge and skills to trainees.
In coordination with different universities in Vietnam, every year the province opens various in-service training courses on agriculture, forestry, construction, communication, economy and finance, etc to meet demands for socio-economic development.
