Trucks queue up for customs clearance at Thanh Thuy Border Gate
According to customs statistics, a total of 118 enterprises and traders engaged in cross-border trade through the gate, processing 6,431 customs declarations—a 61% increase compared to the same period in 2024. The total import-export turnover reached USD 355 million, up 132% year-on-year.
Exports Surge, Led by High-Value Commodities
Exports contributed USD 294 million, a dramatic 200% increase over the previous year. Key export items included metallic antimony, tapioca starch, plywood, coffee, durians, and aluminum alloys—products that have seen strong demand in the Chinese market.
Imports totaled USD 61 million, up 27%, consisting mainly of electricity, fresh flowers, shiitake mushrooms, aluminum billets, coke, and various machinery components.
State Revenue Sees Strong Gains
The total state budget revenue collected through the gate reached VND 145.4 billion (approximately USD 5.7 million), a 25% increase over the same period in 2024, accounting for 71% of the annual target assigned by the Ministry of Finance. The surge in revenue is largely attributed to higher volumes and values of taxable goods, such as a 226% increase in exported metallic antimony, a 100% rise in aluminum alloy exports, and a 48% increase in imported electricity.
Strategic Role of Thanh Thuy Border Gate
Spanning more than 277 kilometers, the province shares a border with China’s Yunnan and Guangxi provinces. The border area includes a diverse system of crossings, such as the international Thanh Thuy–Tianbao pair, two bilateral checkpoints at Xin Man–Dolong and Sam Pun–Dianbang, and multiple auxiliary checkpoints and border markets.
However, current trade activities remain heavily concentrated at Thanh Thuy International Border Gate, while bilateral and auxiliary crossings are operating at limited capacity.
Toward a Sustainable Trade Future
To achieve the 2025 target of USD 500 million in total border trade, and to ensure sustainable growth for the 2026–2030 period, Thanh Thuy Customs will continue implementing comprehensive solutions. These include customs modernization, improved administrative efficiency, and close cooperation with businesses to facilitate cross-border operations.
Efforts will also focus on streamlining procedures, enhancing digital infrastructure, and fostering a business-friendly environment to unlock the full potential of the province’s border economy.
