A scene of Dong Van Old Quarter
Dong Van Old Quarter, a treasured heritage site on the Dong Van Karst Plateau, has added a new cultural highlight with the inauguration of the Old Quarter project. The event, held by the Party Committee and People’s Committee of Dong Van Commune, celebrates the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day (September 2), while also marking the upcoming Provincial Party Congress and the 14th National Party Congress.
Launched in July 2025 with an investment of more than VND 300 million, entirely sourced from social contributions, the project was completed in just two months. What makes it unique is not only the funding but also the craftsmanship: Every detail was built by local Mong artisans and residents, making it a genuine community-driven creation.

The design reflects the distinctive architecture of the Mong people, with stone pillars and a yin–yang tiled roof that blends harmoniously with the Old Quarter’s historic charm. More than a structure, it is a symbol of pride and identity for the local community — a warm welcome for every visitor setting foot in Dong Van.
For tourists, the new Old Quarter project provides a perfect check-in spot and a gateway to cultural exploration. The blend of traditional design and community spirit creates an authentic atmosphere that enriches every visit. As travelers walk through the entrance, they are invited into a world where history, culture, and everyday life converge.
The project is expected to draw more visitors to Dong Van, encouraging them to stay longer, experience local traditions, and share their journeys.
The Dong Van Old Quarter is already famous for its centuries-old houses, bustling weekend markets, and lively atmosphere. With the addition of this new landmark, the quarter is poised to become an even stronger magnet for cultural tourism. For visitors seeking authentic highland experiences, the Old Quarter now offers not only heritage to admire but also living culture to engage with.
By uniting tradition and tourism, the Dong Van Old Quarter project demonstrates how community-raised initiatives can turn cultural pride into sustainable development, ensuring that the plateau remains a must-visit destination in northern Viet Nam.
