After more than 20 years of formation and development, the Tuyen Quang Festival has grown from residents' spontaneous gatherings into a major event at the city and provincial levels. Today, the festival's uniqueness is internationally recognized with multiple Guinness records, including "The Mid-Autumn Festival Night with the Most Lantern Models in Vietnam," "The Largest Mid-Autumn Festival Tray of Offerings in Vietnam," and "The Largest Pair of Rotating Lanterns in Vietnam." In 2024, the festival was granted a trademark registration certificate by the Intellectual Property Office. Each year, the province is determined to innovate and create new elements for the festival's organization.
The Tuyen Quang Festival is increasingly featuring beautiful and innovative models
Mr. Nguyen Van Hoa, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, announced that 2025 marks a new chapter for the festival as Tuyen Quang and Ha Giang provinces merge, expanding the event’s scope. This year, the province will host the main Tuyen Quang Festival Night on the evening of October 4 (a Saturday, corresponding to the 13th day of the 8th lunar month) at Nguyen Tat Thanh Square in Minh Xuan Ward and 26-3 Square in Ha Giang 1 Ward. The program will be broadcast live on Tuyen Quang Newspaper and Television, with many other stations also re-broadcasting the event.
The Provincial People's Committee has assigned the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to develop a detailed plan for the festival night and submit it for approval. Specifically, the art program "The Sparkling Colors of the Tuyen Quang Festival Night" will be led by the Provincial Ethnic Art Troupe, in coordination with relevant agencies and units.
In central wards such as Minh Xuan, An Tuong, Nong Tien, My Lam, and Binh Thuan, local competitions will be held to select the best lantern models to participate in the official parade on the evening of October 4. According to the Festival Organizing Committee, this year’s parade will feature 55 outstanding models from the central wards, including five from the Provincial Tourism Association. Models participating in the street parade must comply with regulations on traffic safety, fire prevention, electrical safety, and festival etiquette. Notably, Mid-Autumn Festival models from communes and wards must be registered, and the Provincial Investment Promotion Center will inspect, approve, and apply the Tuyen Quang Festival trademark label to the models in accordance with regulations.
Visitors' joy and excitement at the Tuyen Quang Festival
During the festival period, key activities will include the "Celebrating Mid-Autumn and Remembering Uncle Ho" program, the Tuyen Quang Provincial Open Pickleball Tournament and Table Tennis Club Tournament, the 2025 Tuyen Quang Marathon, and the Tuyen Quang Provincial Off-road Car and Motorcycle Driving Exhibition. These events will all take place in Minh Xuan Ward.
Mr. Vu Xuan Quynh, Vice Chairman of the Minh Xuan Ward People's Committee, said the ward has thoroughly prepared for the Minh Xuan Ward Mid-Autumn Lantern Model Contest with the theme "Mid-Autumn Moonlit Night - Joyful Festival." The contest is expected to be held around September 20, with over 50 models competing to be selected for the provincial Tuyen Quang Festival Night on October 4. Currently, Minh Xuan is a central ward with a strong tradition of community groups building Mid-Autumn lantern models. For this reason, the province has entrusted the ward with the task of selecting a large number of models for the festival night.
With about three weeks remaining until the main event, the streets of Minh Xuan Ward are already buzzing with lively Mid-Autumn lantern parades, especially on Saturday and Sunday evenings, attracting both residents and tourists. The province has implemented traffic flow solutions to ensure the activities are safe and orderly.
