Once small-scale and limited in market reach, many of these businesses have expanded through strategic investments in machinery and marketing, building brand identities and earning consumer trust in makets. Some such success are the Hung Hau Agricultural Service Cooperative, known for its Bình Ca longan honey, and the Hai Dang Production and Trading Co., Ltd., which specializes in wooden kitchenware like spoons and knives. These products are now sold in clean food stores and supermarket chains in various provinces, and several have been exported.
More than 50% of Hai Dang Co., Ltd.’s wooden spoons and knives - produced in Oang village, Dao Vien commune - are now exported to Australia, Singapore, and India, creating regular jobs for 20 workers. “This success wouldn’t have been possible without strong government support,” said Hoang Van Dung, the company’s director. “Each year, the district helps us promote our products online, refine our business strategy, and participate in trade fairs. We also receive assistance in product packaging design”. From 2022 to 2023, Hai Dang received 400 million VND (approximately USD 16,000) in funding under both provincial and national industrial promotion programs. These funds enabled the company to acquire modern machinery to improve product quality. The company currently holds three 3-star OCOP (One Commune One Product) certifications and a product set, including wooden plates, spoons, popsicle sticks, stirrers, and knives, recognized as a 2024 Typical Rural Industrial Product by the province.

To boost the rural industrial sector further, Yen Son district actively encourages enterprises to invest in technology, innovate product design, and enhance competitiveness. “Each year, we connect local businesses with trade fairs and exhibitions and promote digital transformation for product marketing,” said Ha Duc Hung, Deputy Head of the District Office for Economics, Infrastructure, and Urban Development.
Currently, the district has 61 OCOP products rated 3- or 4-star; two products have earned the Vietnam National Brand title; one has received a geographical indication; and four products are exported to the United Kingdom. Additionally, 12 products have been recognized as outstanding rural industrial products at both provincial and regional levels.
Despite these successes, rural industry in Yen Son still faces hurdles. Most businesses lack sufficient investment capital and skilled labor, and many remain reliant on fragmented, small-scale distribution. Going forward, local authorities plan to expand targeted support programs, focusing on industries and products with the highest growth potential.
