Xin Man strengthens exports of salted radish to Japan
Boosting Agricultural Exports
Xin Man, a border commune with a bilateral crossing connected to Do Long Border Gate in Maguan County, Yunnan Province, China, has recently coordinated with Vietnam Misaki Co., Ltd. to export a shipment of 36 tonnes of salted radish to the Japanese market. This marks the second such export since the beginning of the year, bringing the total volume of salted radish exports from the commune to 72 tonnes—equivalent to over 260 tonnes of fresh radish.
Developing the Border Economy
Pho Bang Border Gate, located in Pho Bang Commune, connects to Donggan Border Gate in Malipo and Funing counties, Wenshan, Yunnan Province, China. Although no official import-export activities have taken place here, the area regularly facilitates small-scale border trade among local residents to meet production and daily needs. Most traded goods include agricultural products and farming tools, which are exempt from duties under current export and import tax laws.
Nguyen Thanh Tuan, Chairman of the Pho Bang Commune People’s Committee, noted that the commune is prioritizing the development of the border economy and cross-border trade. Authorities have proposed upgrading the Pho Bang–Donggan border gate pair into a bilateral checkpoint. The goal is to facilitate the movement of people, vehicles, and goods, promote trade, services, tourism, and investment, and attract enterprises to build infrastructure and generate local employment.
Enhancing Cross-Border Cooperation
To improve interagency coordination at border checkpoints, the Provincial Economic Zone Authority has worked closely with relevant departments to monitor and manage the flow of goods and vehicles across the borders. This includes strict enforcement of regulations, maintaining security and order in border areas, and streamlining customs procedures to facilitate quick and efficient clearance for both individuals and businesses.
Regular monthly and quarterly meetings are held with Chinese counterparts to exchange information and address emerging issues. In the first half of this year, four joint conferences were successfully organized at the Thanh Thuy International Border Gate and Sam Pun Border Gate.
During the same period, total import-export turnover through Thanh Thuy International Border Gate reached USD 261.64 million, a 171% increase year-on-year. Tax revenues contributed to the state budget totaled VND 117.5 billion (approx. USD 4.6 million), up 109% over the same period last year. Meanwhile, Xin Man Border Gate recorded USD 91,792 in trade value, with no tax revenue generated. Fees collected for infrastructure services related to goods transportation reached VND 5.096 billion (approx. USD 200,000).
To support cross-border trade and services, the province has implemented a range of measures, including simplified customs procedures, upgraded transport infrastructure, strengthened economic cooperation, and promoted trade and investment activities in border areas. These efforts aim to unlock the potential of border trade, stimulate economic growth, reduce poverty, and improve local livelihoods.
